this could not be more unrelated to toy story 3
but ok pretend you've been sent back in time on a mission and you only have an hour to complete it. you can't bring anyone else or hop back and forth to get things, blah blah BASICALLY IT'S YOU ALONE AND DO IT NOW OR QUIT
anyway the mission is that you've been sent back to kill hitler while he's still a babby and has no power
he's just asleep in his crib all alone or something
CAN YOU DO IT
you would save countless amounts of people, but you would also personally kill a babby/change the future and possibly have consequences for it

Date: 2010-07-11 06:25 am (UTC)but seriously, that reminds me a lot of this book by Stephen Fry, where they DID 'kill' (or prevent the birth of Hitler) but something even worse happened as a result... like someone else because some sort of Hitler. And for some reason, I have a feeling that that would probably happen.
No, I wouldn't kill babby hitlah

Date: 2010-07-11 07:28 am (UTC)would it be different if the holocaust was already in effect, though, and you went back in time to assassinate him (or whatever) after he already did damage?

Date: 2010-07-12 04:11 am (UTC)And if we were going to send an assassin back in time, wouldn't it be better to stop the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which started World War I, which ended with a treaty requiring Germany to pay huge reparations, which was a major contributor to the political climate that Hitler leveraged to take power? Or just make sure Hitler wasn't rejected from art school or something. Why wouldn't I, or someone else, have brought up these questions before sending me back in time?
I will pretend that answers your question.

science or something
i chose hitler because it's kind of a common thing for people to say that if they went back in time, they would assassinate hitler. it was something that i was talking about with other people a few months ago, and the baby scenario came up. i thought it was a sort of interesting spin on it since it gets a totally different reaction out of people, and kept meaning to post it on lj but forgot ahahaha 6_9

Date: 2010-07-14 01:28 am (UTC)History, like the weather, is chaotic in detail but resilient to modest disruptions in the long term. The new history wouldn't be our history minus World War 2, but something different, similar, and probably slightly better. Don't assume that the lessons we learned in World War 2 would not be learned some other way. Don't forget that some great things probably failed to happen in our history.
Forgetting to post about Hitler on your LJ is probably a good thing. I mean, there are lots of other historical events that don't get enough attention (http://www.salon.com/may97/media/media970508.html).
